Running is a great form of exercise. If you want to try running as part of your exercise regimen, then you need to get a pair of good running shoes. This is important as ill-fitting and unsuitable footwear can cause you injury.

You can always go to a sports store or a store that specializes in running gear for assistance, but be sure to consider the following when you decide to buy:

Know your size. Running expands your feet after a few miles. When you buy shoes, make sure that you provide your feet a bit of room when they do expand.

Know your weight. The shoes that you should get should be able to absorb the pressure that you put into it. Get something that will provide adequate cushioning.

Know where you will run. Will you be running on asphalt? On dirt? Get shoes with the appropriate soles.

Know biomechanics. This can be done by having your gait assessed. You can do this is running stores or you can do a “wet test” by examining your wet foot print on the floor. You can step on a basin with water and then place your footprint on paper. Observe what your print looks like. There are sites that show you graphically what these prints mean. But basically they can be:

Normal or Medium Arch:
When you see half of your arch
Neutral-Cushioned shoes or Performance-training shoes

Flat or Low Arch:
When you see your entire foot (flat foot)
Mild to Moderate Overpronators or Motion-control shoes

High Arch:
When you see just your heel or ball of your foot
Underpronators to Neutral-Cushioned shoes

Here are some more tips on how to shop for food for less!

Yes, we would like to emphasize the importance of having a budget. This will limit your expenses, especially if you follow them to the letter. And to do this, always consider what is realistic and doable. If you become too stringent, then you’d end up not being able to buy anything at all. What you can do is…

Create a list and stick to it. In order to easily create a list that contains everything you need, it is best to create a menu for a week. List down all the ingredients you will need to buy for all the meals and determine the quantity as well. Based on this, you can now create a shopping list.

Based on this list, you can now note down your cost estimate for all the items. Tally it up and you’ll have an idea of around how much money you would bring with you.

Never shop when you are hungry. You end up buying more than you actually need and steer clear of displays. Don’t linger at the checkout counter as they always place tempting goodies there. They are strategically placed there to tempt you to buy more stuff.

Are you searching for just the perfect couch? Something that greets you welcome as soon as you come in your living room from a long day at work? Well here are some tips and suggestions on how to find the sofa of your dreams:

Take a good look at your living space. Find out where you would like to place your sofa. This is important specially if you have a small space as you will have to measure the dimensions of your room. You have to make sure that you are able to buy something that would not dominate the room, and one that is large enough to accommodate clearance for foot traffic and a coffee table if you are also meaning to buy one.

Of course, figure out your budget for furniture shopping. This will limit your choices to less expensive materials, but this will also determine the best quality sofa that you can buy within your means.

Consider also the style. Do you have a theme going? Do you have a rug or painting that would be the focal point of the room? Perhaps you would like to choose something that would complement the overall feel of the room.

Consider also safety. Make sure that you buy something that is durable and sturdy, not only because it would last for a long time, but to make sure that when you sit or lie down on your sofa, you won’t end up on the floor instead. This is very important if you have kids in the house. A sofa with an exposed nail could be dangerous to anyone.

Comfort. Of course! If you’re going to spend time as a couch potato in the evenings, make sure that you buy something that would make you want to sink into it.

Buying a laptop case is quite simple. Just keep the following considerations in mind and you’ll do fine:

Consider your needs and your laptop’s needs. How often will you be bringing your laptop outside your home? Where will you use it? How will you carry it? Will the case fit my laptop snugly? Will it be able to protect your laptop from sudden violent motion? Once you’ve answered all these questions, you can now narrow down your choice from a variety of case styles.

If you plan to put your laptop in a bigger bag such as an ordinary backpack or a small suitcase, you may want to opt for slipcovers or slipcases which work more of like sleeves. They are often made of soft and durable material with an extra later of padding. They only offer minimal protection for your laptop. What it does is to keep your laptop from contact with other objects in your bag.

If you bring a laptop to work or to school, you can buy messenger-style bags for laptops. Very ideal for businessmen and students. They have sturdier straps made for carrying the weight of laptops and its accessories. Protection depends on the durability of the material.

For the business professionals, there are briefcase type cases (or purse types for the ladies) which are made of sturdy and strong material.

Many laptop users love backpack-type cases since they tend to disguise the fact that they are carrying laptops. They can also carry other stuff other than laptop and laptop accessories so there is no need to bring extra bags. It also offers mobility for those who are always on the go.

Love is in the air, and you have less than two weeks to come up with a grand Valentine’s gift for your sweetheart! Any brilliant ideas? Nothing? Well if you can’t think of anything, read on to get ideas. Are flowers and chocolates too boring?

For guys: Unless your ladies really have a knack for flowers, you can be a little more creative than just buying her flowers. And besides, flowers can be really expensive.

For girls: Guys are the ones who usually give flowers. Giving them roses for a change could be romantic, sweet and very unexpected.

Lingerie–yes, or no? YES for both sexes! Having your partner try the lacy underwear you just bought could end the night perfectly.

Gift Certificates. People are becoming more practical and they appreciate the value of a GC. GCs give freedom of choice which means you have less to worry about that your gift won’t fit.

Go to a major event. Your gift can be a new experience. Why not buy two tickets to a special Valentine concert or a production you both would like to see? You don’t get to do this everyday, and you’ve just given material gifts during the holidays. It’s a date.

Look up items in pairs. A very apt V-day gift is a pair gift–one for you and one for him. Mugs, shirts, wristwatches, and pillows in Valentine theme might come in pairs. Look for them in department stores.

Go gadget. Gadgets are expensive so an MP3 player, phone, and a PDA could very well be appreciated.

Jewelry. You can almost never go wrong with jewelry. You can buy jewelry with semi-precious stones if you’re on a tight budget.

Engagement. Are you ready to take your relationship to the next level? February 14th can be Valentines Day and the day you got engaged if you have the ring and the proposal speech. The occasion is almost perfect for it.

It has really been a while since I wrote a food for thought article here at LifeSpy. Since it’s the new year and we’re all in to bit the huge sh*t sandwich that is the economic crisis, let’s start talking about smart spending and pennypinching.

A lot of my friends got themselves the latest electronic gadgets during the holiday season – phones, media players, LCD TVs… And I’m sure there are quite a lot who tried to exploit the low-low bargains offered by stores in last year’s Black Friday sales.

I too was tempted in treating myself in some geek treats over the holidays. Thank goodness that after two years of pennypinching, I finally had an ample emergency fund in the bank and a budget surplus that would’ve allowed me to treat myself on a new laptop.

However, I didn’t buy anything at all. Instead, I just allocated the surplus into my emergency funds. Yup, what a scrooge. But come to think of it. Electronic gadgets aren’t really smart investment these days especially if you’re part of that population who buy gadgets as fashion accessories.

Electronic gadgets depreciate real quick. They’re basically half-off as soon as they come out of the box. If you’re the type who wants to have the “latest,” then you’re just another sucker duped by Moore’s law. Chances are, if you bought an Apple product, they might just pull something new out of their magic hat in just six months and that would just make your purchase a previous-gen item.

My hard and fast rule when it comes to electronics is simple – Make sure that I can use them for something profitable. My most recent purchases – laptop, business phone, and prosumer camera have effectively covered all my bases for work and play. And those I consider smart investments on gadgets since I’ve turned quite a nice profit on them well within and beyond their supposed lifespan all the while using them for leisure purposes.

So what purpose does your latest electronic purchase have?

Shopping for a new outfit is not as easy as it sounds. Just like any buying task, it has to be a very reasonable purchase. If you’re still on your way to being a professional shopper, you’ll need a few tips. Read on.

Determine your budget. You have to set a limit of the money you can spend so that you will not overspend. If you exceed your set shopping budget, you will mess up your entire money plan.

Bring someone else. Okay, so hubbies or guy friends might not be the best companion for these. If you need a second opinion, your mom or your friend can tell you what looks good on you and what doesn’t. If you want to try shopping alone, remember that doubt means NO. So if you’re hesitating on something, let it go.

If you’re buying a casual outfit, look your casual best. But if you’re shopping for a formal outfit, try to put on a few formal touches like a formal hairstyle. The idea is to see how you’d look in the outfit when you wear it on the planned event.

Use a full view mirror, or a three-way mirror to see how the outfit looks on all angles. The back view is as important as the front view so check carefully.

Try on every item you want to purchase. When you shop, you should make sure you put it on first. Don’t rely on the indicated sizes because not all merchandise use the same standard size. So when you shop, devote hours on it so that you can really choose, make comparisons and check the fit.

Feel the fabric. By touching the garment, you can see how it feels on your body–if it’s itchy or very sheer. Examine the material first to see if it’s a plus.

Don’t buy something you’re not sure how to wear. Sometimes you find something interesting but you don’t exactly see yourself wearing it–you just know you can use it with something. Well don’t buy it unless you’re sure how you can look fab in it.

December is the best month for shopping. People are excited to roam around the stores looking for best ways to spend their bonuses. You can take advantage of this by holding a sale. Bank on the fact that even though shoppers have money, they wouldn’t spend more if they can pay less.

Set the schedule of your sale when it’s most convenient. Weekends are a better option because people usually work late on weekdays. Give yourself at least 3 weeks of planning and organizing so that you can cover all aspects of marketing to promote your event.

Make an inventory. Gather all your items on sale. This task is long and arduous, but this is the best way to keep track of your items. To make it more practical, you can categorize them according to prize or brand so that item-searching will be easy.

Make pricetags. This is especially important if your manpower is limited. Selling is faster if all items on display have pricetags. A shopper who doesn’t know the price of a unit is more likely to hesitate.

Make a pricelist and email blast to everyone in your mailing list. One brilliant and inexpensive way to advertise is to e-blast your event to people. To make your event even more enticing, attach a pricelist so that people will already know what they want to buy.

Make huge posters and post them on strategic spots. The best place for your posters is on places where many people hang-out and pass by. Try schools, office areas, along streets, bus stations, and community bulletin boards.

Do some flyering. Devote one or a few days for flyering. People who haven’t had the chance to see your posters will know about your event thru your flyers and they can show it to their friends. Make sure your flyer is eye-catching and informative, indicating the time and date of the sale, the terms of payment, and the exact location of your venue. It is also a good idea to include your hotline so that people may call for their inquiries.

Food and medicine aside, buying old stock can land you some really old savings. I have always been a fan of clearance and end-of-season sales. They’re practically the store’s last attempt to get rid of some old stock. However, even with their “everything must go” signs, some stores don’t usually get rid of everything and they even might have some in stock. Sure they’re a bit old, but hey, warranty spans are often started at the date of purchase. So ask if the store has any and ask for a discount.

This is even possible via phone orders. Let catalogs weather out for three months first then call them up and ask for the stuff that you like. Ask for a discount since the products are to be phased out anyway. While not a guarantee, you might get lucky and have some amount shaved off the price.

Unless there’s an introductory price offer, it’s actually a good option to buy some of the old stuff they got hanging around in the back room.

I am sure that many of us would like to own a property in the tropics, or just somewhere near the sea and sand. If you are on the look-out for your dream beach house and make a sound investment out of purchasing it, then you will find these tips very useful.

Make all the necessary checks for buying real estate. Make sure that the deeds are clean. Taxes have been filed and paid properly. Here are 10 things you could ask a seller of the beach house.

Like dealing with all real estate, do check on how old the property is. The older it is, the possibility of degradation is higher, especially with the warmer climate and higher temperature, not to mention all the moisture coming from the sea and possible tropical storms.

Speaking of sea, try to learn the condition of the tides of the sea near the property. If the house is closer to the shoreline, then do not be surprised if you find out that it is prone to flooding during high tides. Do not neglect inquiring about the plumbing as this is affected by the push and pull of tides in the area. After all, we do not want untoward accidents when you are supposed to be enjoying your vacation.

Plants. Yep, I’m talking about the green stuff that grows. Pick a property with good foliage as they indicate good climate, safe drainage (less flooding), and good soil moisture (no worrying about sudden landslides). Plants also help in making the place cool, which in turn will lesson the air conditioning bills.

The actual house should ideally have tile or wood flooring as they are very easy to clean and maintain. They also make the house cooler as carpets make the living space really hot.

There are two things you should not forget: an outdoor shower for keeping the mess out the house, and an outdoor barbecue grill for a perfect beach meal.
