Driving at night is very much different from driving during the day. Drivers need to be extra attentive to the surroundings due to low visibility. Also, other factors can greatly affect the driving experience including car’s headlight’s and street lamps. Here are some tips and reminders to consider for a safer trip.

Let you eyes get used to the dark surroundings before starting to drive especially if you come from a a brightly lit building or open fields under the bright sunshine. Your eyes need to adjust to the darker surroundings so that your eysight will be in ready for the night time drive ahead.

Your car’s headlight’s should be in tip top shape at all times. Have your mechanic check them periodically to see if there is anything wrong or if improvements can be made to them. The mechanic can also determine if the headlights are positioned correctly so that you can have the widest field of vision when you turn them on low or high beam. Also, keep the headlights and windows clean from inside out. Unclean headlights and windows will surely decrease visibility and sharpness surroundings when viewed from inside of the car.

Remember that night vision becomes poor as you age. Older drivers should consider staying away from the wheel as soon as night time creeps in. Straining your eyes in hopes to have a better view would not be much of a help as well. This might even decrease your vision more.

Turn on the headlights even at dusk or twilight. You may think that you can still see the surroundings clearly een in little daylight but the drivers around you might not notice your presence immediately. Also, the contrast between objects might not be as apparent during daylight or night time.

Road-side accidents occur so often that the minor cases are only reported as a statistic rather than isolated cases. Vehicular accidents are so common that it makes traveling by air or sea safer for everyone. Protect yourself and your loved ones by following these tips on avoiding car acidents.

Turn on at least your low beam lights even if you’re driving in broad daylight. This will increase your visibility on the road and lessening the chances of you colliding with other cars just because they were not aware of your presence.

Always be attentive to possible road-side troubles. Make sure that your foot is ready to step on the brakes even if the potential road-side trouble is far away. Be wary of flashing lights, sirens, flashing brake lights from cars in front of you, children playing near the road, and cars going out of heir driveways or side streets.

As much as possible, stay on the right side of the road. Shift to the middle or the left side of the road if there are pedestrians walking along the side of the road.

Avoid stepping on the gas and the brakes hard. Always go for gradual acceleration when driving and when your near your destination, steer the car to the safe place and step on the brakes lightly until you need to shift to a complete stop.

Pay attention to road signs that indicates animal crossing areas, especially at night. Slow down the car and watch for any hints of deer or other animals within the vicinity. Hitting animals on the road can become real dangerous since they can jomp over your car or come through your windshield. They might even take it as a sign of attack and charge at you without a moment’s notice.

Child safety in a vehicle does not stop by just having a car seat for
your baby. Here are more tips in keeping your child safe in the car:

Make sure that the car seat you acquired meets federal safety and
crash performance standards. If you’ve inherited a car seat, make sure
that it’s not older than 6 years. It might already has essential parts
missing. Check the stamp of the car seat and call the manufacturer of
the seat to be sure.

When placing the seat in the car, make sure that it is tilted in the
correct angle (45 degrees). This will ensure that your baby’s head is
supported properly. Check if your child’s chin does not touch his
chest. This might block airway.

Check your local fire sttaion and have an inspection staff (with
national certification) check the installation of your car seat.

If dirty or malfunctioning, a headlight has reduced the efficiency and
might even minimize your driving safety and performance, especially in
the evening. If you think that your headlight needs some checking,
here’s what you can do:

Check your headlight from the outside if it’s just covered with dirt
or mud. If this is the case, simply get a rag and wipe it off.

If the bulb is busted, buy one for your car’s make and model. Install
as per instructions.

If the headlight lens is dirty from the inside, open the hood of your
car and secure it. Use a universal wrench and undo the bolts.
Disconnect any electrical wiring. Disassemble the headlight. You might
need to use a flat screw driver.

Wash the headlight components using detergent and water. Dry completey
with a dry, clean cloth. You may apply glass polish before
reassembling. Test the headlights.

Driving for long periods of time can cause backaches. To avoid this, it is always best to maintain good sitting posture while driving.

Proper posture will also give enough room to maneuver in case of emergencies.

Position your seat so that you would be able to reach the floor pedals without stretching your arms and legs too much. The most comfortable position would be if you have enough room to slightly bend your arms and legs.Adjust the headrest so that it can support your head.

Sit back against the seat with your knees parallel, your hands on either side of the steering wheel, and your shoulders relax. Always wear a seat belt.

If you are handicapped, it’s always best to have a handicap sticker on your car or a disabled parking permit This will help you park on special spaces, etc and going to places will be much more convenient for you.

What you need to do is to contact your local motor-vehicle office. Ask for the handicapped parking sign application. You can also inquire if the application can be mailed or faxed to you. If the local office has an electronic form, you can also access their website online to download it. If all of the above is impossible, you can go to their office or have someone get the application for you.

Carefully complete the application. Make sure all information is correct and that you have official documents to back you up. This includes a medical certification from your doctor.

When all the document is done, you then turn the application in the motor vehicle office. Bring valid identification and enough money for the fee. Be sure to hang your permit on your rear-view mirror and that it is visible from the outside.

So you think filling your car with gas is just as easy as a walk in the park? Sure it is but, there are still some precautions one must need to follow in order to maximize fuel efficiency and here they are:

Find out the delivery schedule of your local gasoline station. Why? Because you wouldn’t want dirt and debrit from the stirred up fuel in the station’s underground tank in your own tank, would you now? Wait for a day after delivery before you have your tank filled to let the dirt settle.

Fill your tank when your gauge says that it’s half full. The more air in your gas tank (i.e. when it’s near empty) the more chance the gas will evaporate.

Minimize gas from vaporizing by pumping fuel in slowly. The faster the speed you allow it to pump, the more chance vapors can escape.

Vacuuming a vehicle is like vacuuming the house. It makes sure that it keeps the car clean and dust-free, especially if the people who gets in it have serious dust allergies.

The first thing you need to do is to empty the vehicle. Make it free of bags, trash, coins, etc.

Move the seats forward and back and start with the carpet. Make sure that all the loose dirt is completely vacuumed from the carpet. You can get to all the crack and crevices by using a smaller vacuum with a brush.

Treat spots if there is any. Use solutions for spot cleaning. Make sure you test it first in one corner of the carpet to make sure that it wont damage it. Do not scrub, merely blot with a clean cloth until spot is gone.

You may now have the carpets washed if you wish. Just make sure that you dry it completely before putting it back in.

If you’re traveling long distance, then a reliable emergency road kit would surely come in handy for minor car fixes you might need to perform if needed.

First thing to do is make sure you have a spare tire in your trunk. Inspect to make sure that it’s in good shape and importantly, it should be inflated. Just in case, it is always best to have a small can of tire sealant as well. This can take care of plugging small holes. Make sure that you have a jack and a lug wrench, and a tire gauge to make sure you are able to change tires when they happen to go flat.

To revive a dying battery, it’s always best to have jumper cables stored in your car as well. Store with it extra fuses, two spare quarts of oil, antifreeze, windshielf wiper fluid, transmission fluid, and a gallon of water plus a funnel.

For basic tools, you will need screwdrivers, adjustable wriench, vise grips, old rags, paper towels, and a roll of duct tape. Don’t forget a mat or an old blanket for when you have lie under the car in case you need to do some repairs there.

Last but not the least, arm yourself with a flashlight and extra batteries, roadside flares and a couple of warning triangles.

Do you plan to have the windows of your car tinted? Before doing so, it’s better to keep the following considerations in mind:

It is important to understand tints as there are state and local laws that restrict how much and how dark you can tint your car windows. This is because tinted windows limit visibility, especially at night. Regulating window tints are is for the safety of both motorists and pedestrians. This will also allow police officers to see what is happening inside a vehicle.

Check your state and local laws when it comes to tint regulations. For one, there are types and levels of tints. Some states require tint measurements as well.

Tinting your car means, you are limiting the amount of light that gets through your car’s windows. The lower the percent, the darker your tints are. for example, 5% tint means that only 5% of possible light is being let in through your car windows.

Be a responsible car owner and motorist. Follow the regulations regarding tinting. Rememberm, if you’re driving across states, make sure you check the tint regulations there as well.
