Mack pointed this out as a better suggestion over Gspot in finding out what codec a media file uses. MediaInfo an open source utility that has a lot more than what GSpot has to offer.
Yup, I agree, this kicks GSpots to the curb! Thanks, Mack! This is why I love Web 2.0.
You can find [...]

For all of you audio and video freaks out there, here’s another great tool for you. Sometimes it’s a pain to determine what codec a media file uses. Last time, I wrote about being able to playback any video type with a collection of codecs.
Knowing what codec the file uses is important especially if [...]
A lot of trash gets left behind in your PC when you uninstall programs. Some of them leave behind shell extensions - those that appear in your right-click menu.
Now if you want your PC to be spic and span and without those irritating right-click menu options that you don’t get to use anyway (just [...]

No wonder they’re down by that much. I remember when folks had to upgrade from Windows 98SE (or if they’re unfortunate ME), they didn’t need to buy a new PC. But Vista took that route and we see that they’re paying for it.
Who has that much money to shell out for a high-end (that’s [...]

Last time, I buzzed an alert to everyone who uses Firefox to download their favorite add-ons ASAP since Mozilla was supposed to trim down the list.
But as I monitored the Mozilla site, there were still no updates made on the site. The reason behind, apparently, is that, they delayed the site update for tonight [...]

Here’s a pretty weird sketch of Bill and Steve at it:
Anyway, the Internet is still for porn.
Yesterday, Microsoft released a list of 12 updates that’s supposed to patch 20 vulnerabilities.
Now check bulletin MS0-010 which is supposed to patch Windows OneCare, Windows Defender and the Forefront Security and Antigen products.
Here’s a quip from Microsoft (from the Computerworld article):
“The underlying component [of Windows Defender] does ship with Vista,” acknowledged Mark Griesi, security [...]
One of the foundations of good security routine is auditing. It’s always best to know what’s inside your computer and what’s happening to them. This way, it’d be easier to trace what happened with your computer just in case something bad happens.
For older versions of Windows, I’ve written about auditing freeware in my previous [...]

For those of you who monetize their websites through Google Adsense, here’s probably one t1ool that you could use. SysSense is a wee utility that lets you monitor your Adsense account from your system tray. Let it run on the background. It sometimes beats keeping a browser windows open just to check your stats.
What’s [...]

Ever bought a branded PC and wonder what the heck did the manufacture put in it? There are tons of unwanted software that’s usually stored there. Most of them slows down your PC since they all get loaded at startup, idling in the system tray.
Here’s a quick freeware that lets you get some of [...]
Windows Vista still doesn’t have a good set of freeware base for users to enjoy. But here’s one good freeware that let’s you get into some of Vista’s nooks and crannies and do some tweaks on your own - TweakVI.
Here’s a short list of the tweaks it can do:
Internet Explorer tweaks
CPU cache tweaks
CD/DVD drive [...]

When it comes to getting snapshots of your Windows screen, Techsmith’s SnagIt has been at the top of screencap software. What can I say, it can ‘cap them all - windows, scollable windows, user-defined areas, video, even DirectX applications.
Their new release 8.2 is now compatible with Windows Vista and Office 2007. And has some [...]

I’ve been rally hyping on office suites for their use as free and quick (no set-up required) document manager and collaboration software. So far I’ve only really used Google Docs and Spreadsheets until I stumbled upon a few others that you might want to consider.
Here they are:
Google Docs and Spreadsheets
Ajax 13
ThinkFree Office Online
Zoho Office [...]

And yet another complaint against. It’s funny. I remember back in the great transition from Windows 98 to XP, there weren’t too many problems in backward compatibility. But Vista isn’t making loving it an easy thing to do.
First it was the specs. Then it was the cost. I was expecting businesses and other developers [...]

One things that’s a bummer. Some of us keep two accounts in one e-mail provider. Like for example, some would have two or more Gmail accounts. However, more often than not, you can only open one account at a time in a browser.
One quick way around this is to have two browsers open (usually [...]
