Still thinking if you need to updated and/or upgrade your office with new (if not the latest) technology in communication? Here are some factors to help you convince why you do have to:

Using the latest in communication technology in the office allows you staff to be accessible and in contact in the workplace. Cell phones and laptops are great communication tools, especially if your staff need to work off site.

Time zones also won’t be an issue. E-mail can be sent off to people in other cities, other states, and even other countries and they are sure to get them instantly.

Meetings can be held without requiring people to travel long distances. This can be done with conference calls which can be done with video on the web. This allows more flexibility to people who can’t afford to waste time traveling for only an hour of meeting.

This also lessens the time in preparing communication. Memos can be written as an e-mail and sent off in just one click. No need for printing and physically giving memos to employees. No excuse of not getting a memo anymore.

Confused? Lots of options to choose from? Here are some suggestions on how to calmly and rationally make decisions:

Never make decisions when you are under pressure or in a lot of stress. Your judgment can be clouded by emotions and prejudices. Even if you are forced to make a quick decision, ask if you can be allowed enough time to think about it. Step back even for a few minutes. Take deep breaths and clear your mind.

There is nothing wrong to paying attention to gut feeling. For some strange reason, even if they can’t be logically explained, they often turn out right. Listen to your instincts.

Some people like putting thoughts in writing. You can create two columns – pros or advantages, and cons or disadvantages. These can help you organize thoughts, making decision making much easier.

You can also consider the point of view of others. You don’t need to take their advice, just get different perspectives.

Own it. Whatever the outcome of your decision is, be prepared to take responsibility for the consequences. If you made a mistake, learn from it and use it when making future decisions.

Good luck!

There always comes a point or points in our lives that we do serious introspections. These self reflections often lead to a realization that we need to do some change in our lives in order to be happier.

Realize. Knowing that you need to change several aspects of your life is certainly a big step for most of us. We are often scared of change, or are too lazy to make an effort to be better. Hence, most of us also live in denial of the fact that we do need change. Admitting the fact that things aren’t working anymore, or have grown stagnant is the first step.

Be positive. Self-pity, regret, feelings of worthlessness and other negative emotions will not help strengthen your resolve for change. Fill your mind with positive thoughts and your heart with positive emotions. Surround yourself with positive people. Have faith in yourself that you can do it.

Recognize challenges. Trying to change is not an easy task. Habits, especially those which we’ve developed for years can be very difficult to break. Identify these and other things that hold you back. Name your weaknesses and other factors (internal and external) that might hinder you from making that change.

Accept what life has to offer. Look at each opportunity that comes to you and don’t pass it up. Be grateful for these little blessings and explore ways of using them to benefit yourself and others.

Be responsible. Take control of your life. You are responsible for your own happiness and no one else. Act on your realization and don’t sit idly. You have your goals, and your pep talks to yourself. Now is the time to act on it. You can’t make changes without doing anything.

Adolescence is a tough phase that everyone has to go through. What with all the physical, mental, and emotional changes that are happening all at the same time, it is no wonder that many teenagers become confused. Seeking approval in the family and among friends while being not a kid but not-yet
an adult can make anyone prone to doing some crazy stuff. For teenagers, here are some tips on how to keep your individuality intact by resisting peer pressure:

The best way to avoid peer pressure is to keep yourself away from the bad crowd. Go with your gut feel. You know when something or someone doesn’t have your good intentions in mind. Follow that intuition. Real friends only want what’s best for you. If the people with whom you hang out seem to want otherwise, then they are not your friends.

Think about the future and not the now. Remember, that being popular is not worth risking everything. Do not do anything that would endanger your chances for a better future – like getting into a good school, and having a good career. Sometimes, the awful things we do in the past can come back and haunt us eventually.

Decide on what you believe in and stand by it. It can be a little difficult, especially if you are being taunted by others. Don’t let your resolve wane. Always think that you are doing the right choice. Seek help from family, real friends, or a teacher, when you think that the pressure is becoming too much. Sometimes, talking about it with others will help ease it.

The brain like any other part of your body needs constant stimulation so that it won’t lose its sharpness. Here are a few simple tips so that your brain will continue to stay sharp even as you grow older.

Read. Don’t just limit your reading to magazines and newspapers. Try reading two kinds of books at the same time. Alternate fiction and non fiction. They will not only help you increase of keep your level of vocabulary but it will also call out to both your creative and your practical sides.

Learn. Don’t stop learning. Enroll in classes or teach yourself through books. It doesn’t matter if it’s something practical as crocheting, or theoretical physics.

Solve problems. Buy those sodoku or crossword magazines. You can even help your children or grandchildren with their math homework.

Avoid overindulging in alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, and sweets. Instead, eat a nutritious diet to keep both the mind and the body healthy.

Life is full of risks, and that truth makes people cautious and wary about their decisions and actions. This is because taking risks can bring about changes which can make our lives either better or worse. But not taking risks at all can also mean letting good opportunities pass. Here are ways on how you can sort of measure the risks you’re about to take.

How long have you been considering taking that risk? If it’s something you’ve been putting on hold for a long time, then maybe it’s about time you go ahead and risk it.

Are you gonna lose something? We take risks in hopes to gain but we can also lose something while we’re at it. Before you jump in, think if you can handle losing what you might possibly lose in the process. If the answer is NO, then the risk is not worth it.

Will it make you happy? Risk it if it can add to your happiness. Fight for something you really want.

Can you trust your instincts? If your gut says you have to take a risk, don’t believe it just yet. Not until you have argued it out reasonably and until you’ve logically sorted out the changes the risk can have.

When we shop, we almost always try to cart the cheapest in the display. This follows our belief that the price does not necessarily equate with the quality of the product. But there are products where a few bucks can mean a long-term investment.

First you gotta know the stuff that easily loses its value. Among them are clothes. Clothes quickly get out of fashion, and you can easily outgrow them especially if your weight fluctuates often. So before you buy the branded, make sure you’re gonna use it long enough to feel it’s worth the money you paid for it.

Technology can be tricky. Pricey gadgets sold today can be available for half as much after a few months. But cheap appliances and other electronics usually catch up on maintenance problems.

Before purchasing an affordable furniture and kitchen utensils, make sure you trust the manufacturer. Furniture that’s well made can last for years and even decades. Ditto for kitchen utensils. One time I thought I got a good deal getting a cheap non-stick, non-branded frying pan, but a few weeks after, the pan is not even worth its bargain price.

Ask for warranty and service inclusions. Some products are a bit more expensive than others, but they guarantee you of service for parts and labor so you get more than the item.

Dieting in any form is just so hard to live by and more often than not, we just eat what we crave. It doesn’t help that pigging out is so much fun, especially if you take a nap after. But in our world where beauty is measured with a weighing scale, we have to be very smart about our routines. After all, looking good is not just about vanity, it’s also about fitness and health.

Don’t skip your meals, especially breakfast. As the first meal of the day, what you eat or not eat during breakfast will determine how your day will go. People usually dash off to work in the morning, and skipping breakfast seems a practical way to be early and lose weight at the same time. But it has been scientifically proven that skipping breakfast tends to make you overeat all throughout the day.

Whenever you eat, begin with your soup. Fight your appetite’s urge to devour everything by starting out with your broth. Soups curb hunger therefore you’ll definitely eat less.

Start a new hobby. Eating has become a favorite pastime. So if you’re excited about yoga or knitting, or doing outreach, you can keep yourself busy enough to even have time to pig-out. A person can fight his cravings for food if he can divert his attention from food to something else.

Indulge your sweet tooth with sweet but healthy desserts. Forget the chocolate bars and yams. Why not get a bowl of fresh fruit salad (with light dressing) and other low-carb sugary goodness? You can also look up dessert recipes with modified ingredients so that the result is still heavenly, sans the calories.

With the advent of botox, liposuction, nose job and some other nip tucks one might think that women’s perception on what’s beautiful has really taken a dangerous curve. Women go to great heights to make some alterations on their features. It makes me wonder, when women look at the mirror, do they only see their flaws?

Rising against this intoxicating fight for perfection, there’s Ugly Betty. Even though the show’s been put on hold due to the strike, it has become one of today’s most popular sitcoms. Betty is most girls’ nightmare – bad hair and hopeless fashion sense. And to make that even more obvious, she works in a fashion magazine and her workmates are sexy and chic. And yet the show anchors its charm on Betty because her inner beauty outshines everyone else. She is smart and sensitive and she has a good relationship with her family

An average teenage girl who’s still struggling to find herself might be overwhelmed by these mixed campaigns. should girls look up to supermodels or to girls like Betty? In the case of Betty, a girl can easily see why it’s better to be smart than pretty. But the thing is, not all ugly girls get good grades and some hot girls are actually in med school. So how does one find her way through the whole pop culture and come up with a true concept of what’s beautiful?

To help out young girls discover their identity, society has to help them have a more practical self-image. We have become a bit too cruel on plus sizes that now, anorexia is becoming a synonym of dieting. Save our young girls by teaching them that beauty is the product of a healthy body and a healthy mind. We have too many cases of Britneys and Lindsays. Let’s strive to be beautiful Bettys — trendy hair, cute outfits, and armed with a killer wit.

I still believe that there are still a lot of issues in this world that do not need an over-elegant solution. In short, the “Keep it Simple, Stupid” (KISS) principle still holds true. Zen has it that a happy person doesn’t lead a complicated life. There is some truth to this somehow. Just read the tabloid headlines and you’d see how complicated celebrity life is. And now take a look at Britney Spears and how messed up her life is. Here are some ideas on how to keep things simple.

Think before you act. A lot of complications arise because of hasty actions. So before you commit yourself in doing an act, think. Then think twice. Think of the simpler alternatives that would lead to the same desired result. Always opt for the simpler one.

Go for the root. When addressing a problem, always go back to the start. Often times the cause of the problem arises early. Treating the cause is always the best route rather than treating the symptoms. If you can quickly address problems, then do so. This would prevent further complications.

Stick to fundamentals. Why do we still have simple machines? It’s because they work. Aside from a few refinements in materials, the principle behind the hammer is still the same as what Caveman Og used it thousands of years ago. So as long as one way of working proves to be effective, stick and swear by it. The less moving parts a machine has, the less are the chances for it to break down.

Be efficient. Perpetually striving for perfection doesn’t really help you at all especially if you have deadlines to beat. Try to look for ways to deliver the best output possible with the available resources with the available time. This might not be as perfect as far as what a perfect output could be, but at least you’ve done a good task given what you have. And be content with that. Everyday tasks need not be your magnum opus.
